Note: I have made this a sticky post (always on top), because it appears to get a lot of attention from google and other blogs.
Attention United States poker players:
Many popular poker sites have stopped accepting players from the United States (as you have probably noticed).
These poker sites include Party Poker, Pacific, Paradise, Titan, Poker Room, and many others. I am from the United States myself, and had to look for alternative poker sites. I found a very good one.
Bodog is its name. Bodog Poker is now the #1 poker site for people from the United States - one of the very few poker sites that still accept US players. Personally, I believe it’s one of the best sites I ever played at. Better yet, if the other poker sites started to accept US players again, then I would stick with Bodog.
Their poker software is somewhat different than other poker sites, but it sure is the best one out there. They really put some thoughts into it.
Many online poker pro’s vouch for Bodog.
Some of their features:
- Accepts players from the United States
- 110% money bonus on deposits
- 8,000+ players, online at any time
- Texas Holdem, Omaha, 7Stud and more poker games
- Tournament - Many daily tournaments, buy-in and freerolls
- Owned by giant online gambling company - Established 1995
- Voted best poker site of 2008, Quarter 1
Snapshots of their software:

Finally finished upgrading from Nucleus to Wordpress.
I kind of love this theme, so we’ll keep this one for now. It is more ‘poker sites’ related.
I am still busy importing all the old posts and comments to Wordpress.

Poker, and any betting game at poker sites, requires a “bankroll” (the monies that you use to buy-in and bet with). It is how winners are usually measured and how losers are usually eliminated from the game.
In poker, regardless of whether you want to win big or simply want to stay at the table, you must have what is called a “buy-in”; some call it an “ante”. It is simply the cost to play a single poker hand at these sites and is what you pay before the betting begins (and usually before all the cards are seen).
Really developing a management plan for your bankroll is the only way to ensure that you will have a buy-in for a certain number of hands. While betting can fluctuate and it may be difficult to predict how much money you will actually use, the poker tournament buy-in is generally a set amount which makes it easy to budget and set-aside (from your betting monies) your buy-in money. Professionals and amateurs alike create a budget with separate monies for buy-ins and betting. Know why? Let’s take a look at the real benefit of playing for a good number of hands.
Obviously, ‘buying-in’ to the game increases your chances of winning, because if you don’t play you can’t win the hand or pot at poker sites. Part of what makes cards appealing to so many can also result in you receiving a losing hand the first hand you are dealt. So, based on statistics it holds true that a decent number of buy-ins can help to ensure you receive a fair spread of cards (not all hands with “cold cards”, a losing hand) and thus a decent opportunity to win some hands.
So, develop a strategy and classify your budget. Try to play poker safe at the start if you are beginner. Managing role can be daunting task if you are amateur but plays an important role in your success.
